In reply to leanne. Hi, Leanne! I took a look at your website. I recommend putting a subscribe bar at the top of your website. Sumo has a free WordPress plugin you can use for this (it's the one I use on my site). For your pop-up, I recommend making the freebie offer a little more targeted. Just pick one of the three items and explain how it will help readers. For example, "Get Access to the free photography e-course. Subscribe to the email list and you'll get access to my free course that shows you how to take beautiful photos."

I found your blog about a week ago. Don’t ask me how, I have a habit of stumbling in to things, but I’m glad I did. Your site looks like a great place to learn. My book is complete. My editor has sent me on my way and now I feel like a little kid lost in the forest. I’ve been advised to create a blog, grow an e-mail list and so on. So much to learn when all I wanted to do was a damn book! Your site is a step in the right direction. Thank you.

Great article. I’m really struggling to grow my email list. Im using giveaways and pop ups but my conversion rate is really low! Would love it if you took a look and gave me your honest opinion of my pop up? http://www.theglobetrottergp.com – it should pop up after 30 seconds!
